Every website with a call to action! Because only with this can you “show your website visitors the way”, give them guidance and implement effective digital fundraising. Without calls to action, hardly any donations would be generated. That’s why they belong on the homepage and every page of the website. But what makes a good call to action? How do you best formulate it so that you achieve your donation result?
Good donation button texts call for action
The call to action on the donation button is a simple, short and effectively formulated text. It motivates website visitors to click in order to direct them to a donation form or a project page. The donation button, usually rectangular in shape, is often used in a project or campaign context.
Ask yourself which website visitors will see your button! Visitors who are not yet familiar with your organization are highly unlikely to click on a donation button with the call to action “Donate now”. They would rather be interested in: “Get to know xy”, for example. So provide suitable calls to action for both types.
We have put together some target group-specific button texts for your inspiration.
Examples of calls to action
For visitors who know the organization
General formulations:
- “Donations”
- “Donate now”
- “Donate now”
- “Help”
- “Help and donate now”
- “Support”
- “Learn more and donate”
- “Yes, I want to help”
Project-specific formulations:
- “Help fight xy”
- “Help xy”
- “Donate to make xy possible”
- “Help us to make xy possible”
- “Enable children xy now”
Formulation with donation purpose and donation amount:
Your donation button could also directly communicate the purpose of the donation and the donation amount. The context is important here: place a headline and a short text above the donation button so that website visitors understand the context.
One example:
Headline:
Donate now for the victims of xy
Short text:
The dramatic situation has caused suffering and many victims in xy country. Hospital equipment is now particularly urgently needed. This aid will also benefit xy.
Every donation helps!
Donation button text:
For hospital equipment CHF 30
For visitors who do not know the organization
Establish a relationship with website visitors with the aim of getting them to click on the donate button.
Example formulations:
- “Learn more”
- “Get to know xy”
- “Experience the story”
Tip: The font size of the button text should be slightly larger than that of the body text. This is particularly important when the page is accessed on mobile devices. Contrast is also more important than the choice of color. It must stand out clearly from all other website elements.
